March Technique - Tyvek

Experimented with the FAF technique for March today - which is tyvek. I painted some curtain lace and some tyvek with ordinary acrylic paints. I then sewed the lace on to the tyvek with some FME - I mainly just followed the pattern on the lace. Then the fun part - out came the heat gun. The tyvek shrank, gathering the lace in with it, and the texture is really lovely. It really is much more textured than what it looks in the photo. I tried the iron first, but that wasn't doing what I wanted it to do, so went for the heat gun (my favourite tool)......

Really cool! Is there an odor from the melting tyvek when you heat it?

Whoo hoo ... another thing to try .. .you are such an inspiration. Melting Tvyek puts off hazardous fumes - I hope you did this outside! If not - get a respirator.

Very cool! Love how it textures up. Isn't the heat gun fun? I also love my cautery pen. It's fun to bun, melt & mold fabrics! (I think I must be a little sick)

Love the outcome. My ignorance will show next. What is tyvek? I love reading and seeing your fiber results. A lot of what you do is so unique and very new to me. So please tell me more. You can email me if you prefer to lwlamona@yahoo.com.

i have been having a Tyvek play but haven't posted anything yet. I have already said how much I love this work you are doing and must add the lace to my experiments.

Having just posted a comment on your flickr and now seeing this you have answered my question. obviously the photo doesn't show the crinkling!!! Great colours. I love the way tyvek can be distressed even more by pulling it when warm so thta you can distort it and create holes. A combination of iron and heat gun is usually how I attack tyvek
