Fabric Dyeing

Today I tried fabric dyeing for the first time!! Not sure if I did it the "correct" way (if there is a correct way), as every book I read about dyeing was different, so I just sort of picked the easiest bits out of each book. Anyway, here are my results! I'm pretty happy with them. I used fuscia and turquoise MX dyes, and folded and tied the fabrics in different ways - and don't ask me which one is what - I can't remember!! Next time I'll have to write it all down.......

Congratulations - looks like you had a hugely successful day! I've determined that there really is no "right" way. I always love the surprise of it!

Wow, don't they look great? Just beware, though, I'm told dyeing is very addictive!

Your dyed fabrics look very good!
And yes, it's a good idea to write down a few things, just in case.
Mmm... I think I'm going to have a little dyeing session pretty soon too.

Oh fun! I bought some stuff, but haven't taken the time to actually try some very much dyeing of my own. Maybe this summer, the boys can help me....

They look nice Dianne, did you use a white fabric? I sometimes dye with a lightly coloured fabric, the colour is getter deeper and warmer.

What truly unique pieces of fabric you've managed to get. I can see I'm going to have to try this during the summer. In the book I have 'Colour on Cloth by Ruth Issett' she recommends keeping a sketchbook as a record of your experiments so you can duplicate a colour again.

Yummy! The one in the very upper lefthand corner looks like trees.

WoW. These turned out really well didn't they. They all look fab but I really like those turquoise ones. Your next task before you self destruct is to make something with them!!!

These turned out great for a first go! I have a book filled with the 'recipe' for each piece I dye and a small swatch beside it - comes in useful if you want to duplicate something. I'll bet you had a lot of fun!

Hi
There's no right way as long as the colours don't run when you wash them. Its fun finding your own way and then using them in your projects. Keep dyeing.
